Anyone got any idea what sort of price i might pay to have a discovery chassis blasted and etch primed or something,.... just til i can get more paint on it...???
-
if the chassis is off the vehicle (or the vehicle is off the the chassis) it would cost you a drink at your local industrial blasters/painters.......if you ask the boys nicely, however if the vihicle is still sat on the chassis i would reccommend against blasting it........even with fine grit the power is amazing and you've got all sorts of succeptible stuff under there that doesnt really want grit blasted anywhere near it (wiring, breathers, brakes etc etc) you'dbe much better off getting a wire brush attatchment for a 4" grinder and spending half a day underneath doing it yourself.

Ron, only just seen this. If the chassis is off a vehicle then I know a man that might be able to 'piggy-back' it onto another job.....he won't do any of the priming tho.
PM me if interested and I'll see what I can do. He's not far from me.

as you can't blast the inside of the chassis rails i'm pretty sure that galvanising it is pretty much out of the question......

bare chassis...........

in that case forget blasting it and spunk up the money and have it hot dip galvanised.......maybe a friendly fabrication yard has a good sized load going and you can pop it on thier lorry for very little money
-
I have no issue with paying for it, if it's do-able.... and not too rediculous to get it done.....

Talk to a galvanising company. They will be able to advise about the internal gunge that you won't be able to extract easily. I'm sure they can clean it out chemically.
-
Spoke to the nearest gavanizing company, they'll charge %0 quid to collect and deliver, and 68pence per kilo of chassis weight....... so pretty cheap really....... they need clean metal though, so they have a company round the corner that can blast it for them...... also, absolutely no grease or oil....... otherwsie it ruins their acid tank...........

Metablast can hot zinc coat it as part of their service. Good stuff.
Basically zinc rod melted into powerfull blow torch !
Had some stuff done. Similar to galv but does not go inside chassis
