Title: 300tdi Rain leaking in
Post by: ibruceuk on November 09, 2008, 01:58:21
Hi,

I have a 300Tdi with NO sunroofs but I am getting some water leaking down the rear drivers pillar next to the back door.

It can be seen running just under the rear speaker.  Does anyone know where this can be coming from, I'm at a loss as I can't see anything anywhere.

Cheers,

Ian

just a thought... what about the roof windows (skylights i think),, may need new seals

Sorry I forgot to say I've checked the roof windows and there's no visible seepage and they look in pretty good condition.

 Cheers

Been there, done that.....

If all else fails and you can't find the source, whip out the headlining and "water" the roof with a hose pipe.

Cheers,

I'll take a look at the roof bar seals.

I've watered the roof with the alpine surrounds and the trim in the back corner off.

The water just seems to appear from nowhere at the back corner just under the box section that's about level with the gutter.

Could be the gutter (or roof/body join).

It will be the rtoof body join, easiest way is to fill it with liquid filler and let it run into any holes and set.

Thanks,

So where do I fill?  Is it in the gutter, or underneath the gutter in that little space where the body curves in under the gutter?

What filler would you recommend?

When mine leaked and wrecked both the rear speakers, i took the headlinig out (didn't need to but did). And literally filled the gutter outside with silicone sealant from a gun. Then left it to harden, hasn't leaked since.

My 200tdi leaked in the seam between the roof and the rear quarters as well, I put silicon round the seams on the inside too....

might be a silly question, but do you have screen washers on the back, mine leaks down the pillar if I ever try to use it.  Switch is disconnected so I can't do it anymore.

As others have said definitely the seam, I took the trim off the gutter and siliconed the joint and also drilled some drain holes in the gutter at the rear where the water pooled, and it's been bone dry ever since

Thats on my to do list as well , can't see the point in doing the floor if the roof still leaks..
