Evening,
Decided to fit a decat pipe and straight through centre pipe with usual small silencer at the back to my 300 Tdi after my tail box fell off.
All went well with the fitting but the noise is unbelievable, I've heard quieter tractors and sooner or later I'm going to get pulled for it.
Has anyone else had this problem after this mod? Options now are refit a centre silencer or hope it will quieten once it's sooted up a bit?

My back box is still off and it sounds great .
I'd say suck it and see.
If you get pulled and they say it's too loud they wil give you time to sort it ....

I'm sure you know that Db levels are measured at certain revs for certain vehicals just find out what your limit is and get it checked :police:
I know that motorcycles are measured at 5000 rpm thats why lots of them have flat spots at this engine speed .. I don't know what it is for a discovery though...

LSP and Bogert are both sound blokes ..
You may get the odd jibe or be asked if you can nick somebody as a favor cause they spilled a pint or something but you won't get any trouble :lol:

Yup plenty of chaps from the forces and the services on here mate, never any issues with anyone really.
Apart from certain chaps that are mental and like moshing (you'll get that jibe if you hang around long enough)

I've heard a 300 TDI with no silencers at all, and it wasn't too bad. Yes it was loud but it wasn't obnoxiously so. I know a chap with a Toyota MR2 Turbo which is a lot louder, but gets through the MOT without problems.
If you're worried then try taking it into work and asking if you can borrow the noise meter to check it. I doubt a modded Landy will get pulled however - if our local Police are anything to go by they're not bothered so long as the vehicle is legal (MOT'd, etc) and being driven sensibly.

Thanks for the replies folks, it has been discussed on another forum that it could partly be down to thinner metal used in the system compared to the original system and the possible lack of packing in the silencer when it was constructed.
Must admit that at times it sounds like a hill rally motor :grin: and other times like a deranged tractor 8-[
Will see what happens with the noise meter, but will probably live with it if its legal, even the wife hasn't complained :shock: :shocked: :grin:

ive got a decat . no ctr box i replaced that with the tail pipe then a side exit . soounds o.k nice little rasp when you accellerate hard . alan..

i have heard a 300TDi with no silancers, i have also heard 6ft 8" russian with bronchitus coughing....they dont sound too disimmilar :lol:
you should be thankfull, my exhaust has one little straight through silencer and is routed just infront of the rear wheel, that becomes a little tedious, especially with the windows open(which they always are). if thats tested and ok'd for road use then yours will be fine :police:

Right, I decided to video the exhaust and put it on you tube to give people a better idea of the sound.
Video is at start up then 3000rpm then 4000rpm, admittedly on the video it doesn't sound too bad apart from a stutter when initially revving,put it down to being cold ;)
I will have to do a drive by video as I'm sure it sounds a lot louder out on the road.

sounds excatly the same as mine i love the fact you can hear the turbo and i think it sounds good i also have a heavy right foot purely for the noise....

Yeah the more I drive it, the better it sounds, just going to put a bit more soundproofing in the rear as it tends to boom in there and don't want to deafen the kids! ;)
