Hi all,
The temp gauge on dash has stopped working #-o
Garage told me themostate in engine is broken, :^o me thinks as the engine does not over-heat, the heater works fine.
The temp gauge has never moved from the bottom/cool postion since I've had the car about 3 years.
What should I be looking for and where.
Have just covered over 500 miles this weeekend with offroading around Langdale quest thrown in, and car did not miss a beat.

The stat would be worth a look at, for the sake of maybe a quid or two, it could be stuck open, or not have one at all

Cheers Kev,

Hi Colin
Check the sender unit, take the lead off and (Ignition on) touch it to earth, if the gauge moves up it's likely the sender unit thats naff'ed. If the heater's working well stat's probably OK.
How'd you enjoy Langdale
Dave
PS: Sender unit's generally used to be in the thermostat housing but.........I'm going back a bit, could be anywhere these days.

I would say it's an electrical problem (sender, wire, instrument pod connection).
When I first got my Discovery, the temp guage wouldn't get much off the bottom ... but it did move. I replaced the termostat and now it's fine. Thermostats are cheap so it's probably the easiest first thing to try.

How did you get on?
I had the same problem with my disco recently. replaced the temperature sender (and put a new connector on the wire as i broke it getting it off) and it's been fine ever since.
