right recently ive been experiencing intermittent fuel gague, sometimes when im driving along it would go all the way off the chart and say past zero fuel, with the red light on! then 5 minutes later be back on, then go back again, then when i turn it on and off again it works?
any ideas i have a 200tdi so the old caveman dash, all the other gagues work any idea?!

Sounds like the sender unit. Unfortunately thats located inside the tank and you probably know what that entails.
If yours is as rusty as mine, good luck getting the inspection panel screws out. I don't know what they cost but unless anyone else here reckons it's something different, its probably worthwhile ordering a replacement. If you're going to the trouble of getting to it, might as well change it :)
Ah ha: eek! A bit pricey.... http://shop.ebay.co.uk/sis/_W0QQ_kwZLandroverQ20LandQ20RoverQ20DiscoveryQ20200Q20TDiQ20FuelQ20TankQ20Sender

Definitely the sender unit. Easiest way to get it out is toundo the six bolts holding the fuel tank in and drop the fuel tank if you cannot get the inspection cover off.
Alternatively, stick a new fuel tank in,which is just as easy as putting a new sender unit in.

I`m not the only one then... mines refusing to believe theres anything in my tank... it has made a few trips out of the red area, but predominantley seems to stay in the default (completely empty) position.. i`ve had the cover off, cleaned up connections, but no joy...
..and yes, i have put fuel in, (20litres ontop of the 1/4 tank that it told me was in yesturday - i suspect there was more than this as well!)
I have had a few months ago, an issue, where it told me the tank was 3/4 full, and 3 seconds either side of that, it was at 1/3... on a plain flat tarmac road.....
is this a back garden and torch job, or workshop time?
cheers
