Don't think you would get the Bank Holiday. :( There's a garage in Carlisle that is scottish owned. Because of this, the employee's cannot have the english Bank Hol's. :o Neither are they allowed the scottish ones as they work in England. Tight wads or what. :?

It's a scandalous thing but no one is entitled to be paid on Bank Holidays. If your employer won't pay you there's nothing you can do about it.

some businesses work on bank holidays, some dont
if you do work for one that works through.. tough!

I'm lucky I guess, I get paid. If I'm asked to work it's double time and a day off when I choose. :D SWMBO works for a holiday complex. Getting a Bank Holiday off, or any time off, is nigh on impossible. :( She gets less holidays than me as well. On the down-side, getting away together is difficult. On the up-side, it means I can get to off road events and shows etc without any arguement. The trouble with that is I spend to much and then have to smuggle things into the workshop.

Simple answer for you lot. Move to New Zealand. It's enshrined in our law that you either get the day off on public holidays, or if you have to work are paid time-and-a-half and get a day off of your choosing! No arguments, no tight-fisted employers causing trouble, and the same rule for everyone.
One of the days is a regional one that varies according to where you are - it doesn't seem to matter that one part of the country is shut whilst the rest carries on business as usual.

Same here (and for the other 13 weeks holiday I get a year)
