Title: Wii advice please.
Post by: marjan on November 22, 2008, 20:21:31
I'm wanting to buy a Nintendo Wii as our "to ourselves Christmas present" but I'm confused by all the different packages available. I want one with a Wii Fit & balance board but do I need one with 4 controllers (2 +2 Nunchucks) or are 2 controllers sufficient?. Also are the ones with 54 or 86 games just a gimmick to make you think you are getting more for your money ?.

I suspect all the 54+ games are a bit basic but will entertain you for several hours. All the additional controllers are worth it if you are thinking of games where more than one person plays.

If you are considering a Wii can I ask you to consider buying it through the donation site shown in my signature. You get a discount and my Scout Troop get a donation as well.

Your best bet is the Wii + Wii fit, the board is part of the package. You will need 2 controls and nunchucks. Shop around as there are some good deals around, the games are just a gimick, very basic games.

Good luck finding a Wii Fit in the shops this side of Christmas, you'll have to get up early on delivery day to get them before they are gone, which is why we still dont have it yet.  Unless of course Nintendo have increased production.

personally unless you really WANT the wii fit and intend on using it then dont bother just yet, unless the deal you get includes the wii fit and if you get it for a decent price fair enough

the basic console is 170 so shop around for prices on the games you fancy and if you get the bundled offers which includes your wanted games for less than their individual price then all the better

consider getting a console with more than one remote/nunchuck cos normally they dont come with more than one...

remotes are bout 25-30 quid depending on where you look, got mine for 26 the other day from amazon

nunchucks are about 12-15 i think...

but definitely buy WII PLAY cos it comes with a free remote (the game is bout 34 quid so you get a game with a controller for what is essentially 8 quid)

gamestation i got mine from (aug 07) but i got 2 remotes, 2 nunchucks, zelda, wii sports and splinter cell for 240 quid which at the time was the best value for money

i also have since bought mario kart wii brand new for 28 quid on ebay plus a wheel, one of the must-buys IMO.

the NFS series didnt appeal to me much on the wii, maybe cos the game is graphically intensive...

what i WAS impressed with though is a game called metroid prime 3:corruption (im squeamish dont like alien baddies!) but it was graphically superb!

Ok, got a Wii on it's way with wii fit and 2 remotes (& 2 nunchucks) for £295.

So wait for it - here comes the lame question. Does this thing need batteries and if so what type and how many ?.

The wii fit takes 4 AA but come with it. Controllers need 2 AA but also come with. I bought a rechargable base set for mine. Lasts for a few hours. Get one that plugs in the mains. Mine goes in the onboard usb, but will only charge whilst the Wii is on. :( Mind you, it was 50p at a car boot. :)

Ive just ordered a 40" sony Bravia LCD for the kids to play the Wii on. Well i say its for the kids. :) Hope it get here for Crimbo [-o<

Wii love ours. Its really something you can do as a family and the kids dont get bored. My advice is to not overdo it with the Wii fit right away. You dont realise you have some muscles, until you try and get out of bed the following morning. :) Believe me.

I bought our 'xmas pressie to each other cunningly disguised as present for our 6 year old son' Wii online from Dixons, got one of the bundles, console, 2 controllers, 2 nunchuk, Wii Sport and Mario Kart with wheel for about £220.

Haven't played it yet, it's been under the bed for 4 weeks waiting for xmas day!

Was thinking of getting one of the karoake games too, Boogie Superstars or similar.  Anyone got this or one of the other singing ones?  And how do you rate it?
