Post by: Alex200tdi on November 24, 2008, 09:04:31
Morning,

I have a leak coming from the base of the dipstick, does anybody know how to remove it and replace the seal (if there is one ?) i take it there shouldnt be any fresh oil around the base of the dipstick ?  and if this seal had gone would it cause oil to come out when the egines running ?  :-k

thanks guys

200TDi dipstick tube has an olive and nut. If the nut is tight and it's leaking, then you will have to replace the tube. The olive either wears or creeps up the tube. You could try removing the tube and putting a film of sealant on the olive.

The nut is awkward to get undone - the chassis rail is in the way, so it's quite fiddly to undo.  Clean around it before you undo it or all that grit will fall into the sump when you undo it.
