I'm having problem’s with a 200tdi Defender with 135,000 miles on the clock. When the engine is up to temperature the oil pressure light start’s flickering at idle and then stays on. :(
-
obviously it has oil in it? next like of enquiry would be the switch, then check the wiring isnt rubbed through and earthing out somewhere between the switch and the gauge/light
-
That is exactly the same symptoms as a customers 200Tdi when the oil pump was on its way out. If the the engine got too hot or was on idle the oil light would flicker on and off. I replaced the oil pump after checking the pressure and its been fine since.

check that your oil cooler is ok,cause on my 90 that i had,the oil use to get realy hot,to hot,to thin and obviously thin oil causes the pressure to drop,my 90 was only a n/a 2.5,but with a cooler it would of cured it,cause i use to tow a trailer,so check that it isnt blocked,or if you do a lot of green laning, more frequent oil changes :D

give it a oil and filter change
worst case is a spun cam bearing or the oil pump gone, neither is any great hardship

mum was driving her 90 80pmh down the m11 and the oil light come on, carryed on 15miles tillg to home and said it wasnt running right.. me and dad looked at it 2 day later would out that the oil relief valve got stuck and starved the crank of oil,
the rest was ok but eh the bgi ends and shells had head marking on.. had to rebuild crank and con-rods
so just to let you know that it has happend a few time to poeple when the oil light come on (DONT DRIVE IT)

Looks like a spun cam bearing
