Title: What are the legal issues with adding extra reversing lights?
Post by: auf_wiedersehen_pet on December 06, 2008, 19:19:00
What are the legal issues with adding extra reversing lights?

I want to fit an additional reversing light in the space in the centre of the spare whhel carrier. My plan is to wire it on a searate switch that is only powered when the reversing lights are on - therefore it can't be left on by mistake.

The light will also be off the centre line of the vehicle.

Will it be legal?

If not, can I just wire it up as a worklight?

C& U law used to say 2 max , and there is a brightness or wattage limit I recall.

But given what they are I dont think that you would be arrested for having 3!

My 110 has a pair of 55w spot lights, mounted high and at each side at the rear, looking backwards.  They work on a switch on the dash and can be switched on at anytime.

It was like this when we bought it nearly four years ago and we've never had any problems with it (and it is dead handy).
