Title: Oil pressure light after going through a ford
Post by: bobtailed disco on December 07, 2008, 21:06:43
As subject really..
I have got a 1998 3.9 efi Disco
A few months ago i went through some deep water and the oil pressure light came on but went out again.
But this time i went out to west acre ford and the light has came on and stayed on (left it for a couple of weeks and it is still on)

is this a commen fault Discos??? as i took my bobtail out a couple of months ago and that has done the same but that is a 200 tdi (the light has come on and stayed on but took the rocker cover off and there is plenty of oil at the top end)

Cheers
Rob

Have you checked the connections on the oil pressure switch on the side of the oil pump?
Maybe even try changing the switch to see if that sorts it, although I would want to make sure it's actually an elecrtical problem and not and oil pressure problem PDQ!!

Stand by the driver side wing, by the battery, and look down to where the oil filter is.
Just above the oil filter, screwed into the oil pump casing, is the oil pressure switch & the oil temp sensor. IIRC the oil pressure switch is the larger of the two.

My disco Used to occasionally do this when having been in lots of water, mine was a dodgy connection on the switch, just had to take it off, clean it and put it back on again and it was all good!
