i think u should leave it how it is you don't see lots of disco pickups, an i think yours looks realy smart. the only think letting it down at the moment is the roll cage, it doesn't follow the lines of the roof or the windscreen very well, and the rear hoop looks like its been bodged in there.
-
good reason for that...it has!
im not proud of that cage but considering it was made in 2 days with a machinemart bender i dont think its too bad.
it will be coming off tomorow anyway :D should be using it for the tubework on the front
-
Really keen on how yours looks, alot more than if it were tray back..
if your really that budding to do something original think about doing something with the arches..
and get those axles that are offestted so the diff is higher..
A quick thought, what do you actually do with your disco? you compete in her?
-
it will be going to russia in 2010 to compeete in TR3 at ladoga, already got portals sorted. have an idea for arches undecided on a winch
-
If your that bothered by having something diffrent then, then nether a pick up or try back cos both will get more popular over the next few years as there are more cheep discos about. My whole build so far has just hit £800 inc disco/tyres/tank/pump You could come up with some thing like the comp safri with a frame with panels, or any thing else you can dream up. I used this site for inspiration http://www.adrianstomcat.co.uk/OtherDonor.htm .
If it were me id leave the body and concentrate on the suspension design, are you planning 3 link /1 link stuff? I must admit i get lost when it come down to all that.
Are you planning on it being road legal or not at the end, well m.o.t. standards. I wont use the other 3 letters cos i have it when people bring them up.
-
it will be road legal for comp use but it will be more like an off roader that can go on the road. im not doing the buggie space frame thing, many people are currentley building this type of thing. it will probibly stay as a truck. there no doubt will be more and more disco trucks floating about in the next few years but im hoping/wanting mine to be different.

NO don't do it..............................................
Stand out from the crowd and DON'T have a tray back they are hiddeous
-
howabout rebuilding it into a standard disco again
-
Stub-nose it, make up some mad Arches for it (I have a cheeky idea for this if your not averse to some MAD bodywork!- Lets just say Giorgetto Guigaro was my inspiration) Tube round the front to stop it getting completely mangled. Keep the pick-up body- looks good, functions well seems a shame to bin it.....

This.....
belongs to a mate of mine, not sure if he's on here, but i'm sure he won;t mind me showing his truck off, what about some sort of similar tube arrangement...... easier with a rangey bonnet, but might be do-able with a disco....
-
hi all, thanks for the props/advice.
i do have a rangie bonnet but im seing what it looks like with the disco front end first. and if i were to put the rangie front end on i would have to explane to people that its not a rangie but a disco! dont think i would have the energy . and yes, there will be a tubular motif around the front. much like the RRC set up with one bar going all the way around. with various uprights here and there. as for arches....im going for the lorry verioty, there quite big and quite cheap. should look good when its done :D
-
Get another set of disco front wings a rear quarters and cut/bend them into BIG flares like Lancia delta evolutions or escort MK1s and 2s that would be sexed up!
