Post by: Disco-andy on December 08, 2008, 20:05:20
Im after some new springs for my 98 v8 disco 1, its only ever on the road and one day will need to tow my off roader.

What experiences have people had with diffrent make's, as im after some thing to help handling?

Dose any one know if RRC police springs will be ok? iv heard good things?

I cant afford OME,and iv had Yellow one and found them very soft?

Given what you are asking for I would advise against the police spec springs for a RRC.

I'm not sure which springs the ploice used on the front, but the rears where the red/white stripe springs. These were stiffer than a standard RRC spring (designed to be used with the Boge SLU), but were also softer than standard discovery rear springs.

Personally for what you are asking I would go for a new set of genuine standard springs assuming the old ones are past their best. Also if not already fitted then add some anti roll bars will help reduce body roll. Every one has their own preferances and although I'm not against stiffer springs, I find standard suspesnion in good order to be a reasoanble compromise.

leave the fronts alone, and fit OEM discovery Mil-spec springs on the rear..
I've done this with mine and am well pleased with it...
(these springs were also fitted to Camel discos)

the problem is it sits much lower at the front and is all a bit wobbaly, as bad as my old off road lifted disco. so i have opted to put new standard springs on as they are cheep enough and were good enough when it was new.

ive got the britpart heavy duty springs standard height ( though ive also got 20mm spacers under them )

and going from the britpart +2" yellows, i find the heavy duty's brillaint

handling is very good, though the shocks are procomp +2" es9000

so a harder shock than standard

as a side note, the tyres are 245/70/16 general grabber at2

i find this set up excellent in all situations

Start with a decent set of shocks and see how it handles.

Strange...I've got the BM blues and they're still pristine!!!

BM blues I reckon, nice road holding, good travel, not too hard but not wallowy...
