Title: Jacket
Post by: Banjo on December 12, 2008, 09:00:54
According to the missus I need another jacket , I've got an old waxy that's years old, it was only a cheap one but it's been great , used it for everything from a dog bed to a welding blanket  :D, so what do I go for...?  another one,  or is there anything else as hard wearing.

You can't go wrong with a bomber jacket - they are very warm and when they get a bit battered they look even better!

Ive had a couple of barbers. (lost the first one). But now for shooting, fishing and walking the dog i have a Deerhunter. Its a synthetic windstop material. Very nice. Camo too. But it was £150. Which i though was very reasonable. I wont be buying anything else for a while. :)

My recomendations are....

Hi viz parka, if you hang around moving cars like trails/P&P etc or want something to keep in the car. I got one for about £11 its nice and warm and if I fall over somewhere strange on the farm ill be easier to find. Wont last long but for £11 its expendable.

I got a nice Barbour for Birthday, lovely last long time etc but about £100 so for looking posh at auctions.

Also had a Colombia gore tex thing that I got from TK max, warm but lightweight, not sweaty and Iv stood in pouring rain all day at race tracks and never got wet inside. Windproof and clever layout makes this the best coat I ever had, shame I ripped it on a winch (sill use it mind, its just too good!).

Id recomend TK max as a place to buy coats as they have loads of good quality outdoor stuff for less than high st.

Ditto the hi vis...

the wife calls it the banana and hates it..

but it is very comfy and warm and dry and has a good tall coller for keeping the wind off your neck....

I ditto the hi vis. great dog beds and stops wind and even better if the company you work for hands them out free!!

I have 4 now and are great. 1 for summer dog bed, another for covering pooch up when she is cold on top of the other hi vis and people can see her asleep, 1 for me to wear and 1 in the disco for when it breaks down and I have to sit o the side of the motorway!!

I got my Barbour off Eb@y, really cheap and looks good without looking too new.  I did buy the proper stuff to rewax it myself but it took ages to dry.

Barbour every time. Iv'e had mine for twenty years and I work on a farm so its had every sort of abuse but I proof it once a year and it has never leaked. It is a bit tatty but I wouldn't swop it for anything else. I can't see any of these trendy goretex type things lasting like that.
