I've just bought a car transporter trailer, but it doesn't have winch fitted.
Question is, what capacity will the winch need to be to pull a Discovery on, it is a tilt bed, so will be towing up hill?
I'm not looking electric, only a hand powered job, but they all seem to be around 1000 - 1500kgs. Thanks.

Yes they are.
If you aren't pulling the Disco straight out of the mud onto the ramp then you don't need a recovery winch.

You dont need a strong one for road pulling, 1500-2000 is plenty, you can use a manual, but a portable electric one is just as good, got an electric one I use, can easily pull a rangy or disco onto the trailer, if you can aim the load to go down hill on loading makes it easier whichever winch you use

You might need to consider if there's a chance that the truck will be broken, ie, wheels hanging off etc, as that would clearly take more pulling power....
The other option of course, is 'if' the disco has a winch fitted, if there's a suitable strong point on the trailer, you could always winch the truck on using that...... with a pulley block iff needed to slow down the operation......

Or if you have a winch fitted to the front of the towing vehicle put a tow ball next to it and winch it up that way. I use my rear winch for dragging all sorts on to the trailer :shock:
