Title: clutch slave cylinder

hi people my friends just called me out to help get his 300tdi disco back, he lost the clutch.
i found his problem, the top bolt has snapped in the gearbox, he had a new cutch kit fitted about 5months ago. under warrenty, i recon they only put 1 bolt back in or only tightened 1 and the pressure has made it snap. how does the new 1 fit in the gear box coz its got a ballon the end of the bardoes it just sit in or has it got to be clipped in,
any ideas cheers,

From memory, the acuating rod is clipped into the arm, and should stay there when you remove the cylinder, then simply slide it into the new cylinder once you've sorted the bolt issue...!!

this 1 was just lose in it touched it and it fell out, does that mean gearbox out ??????

therr is no harm in asking the garage but we all no wot they are like wwen something comes back . if they wont do it you will have to get some eze outs and drill it out

he bought the disco 6 months ago and the sales garage done the clutch on warrenty, so i said to him go see the as its worth a try

If the clip holding the clutch cylinder push rod is not there or has come adrift then striclty speaking it's a gearbox out job, without it you can't assemble the cylinder to the bellhousing.

As for warranty, I'd have advised you went straight back before laying a spanner on it, not they will argue you did the damage.  5 months is acceptable as you would expect it to last way longer, but you may need a small claims court to decide in your favour.

There is a bodge if it's just the slave cylinder.  Cut a hole in the bellhousing with a holesaw to allow you to get inside and refit the clip, then mastic the slug of ali from inside the holseaw back into place, or cut a plate to cover it and again seal with mastic.
