Could anybody help us with a spot of detective work........
We currently have a small flock of sheep being grazed at Ampleforth, North Yorks and we are hoping to transport them up to our new home in the wilds of the Highlands (Scotland to the geographically challenged).
We aren't looking for transport, we just need to know if they are still there, as a friend of a friend seems to think they have been sold from under us and the chap who is looking after them is not one for answering his phone. So is there anyone who would be in the Ampleforth area in the next 6 weeks, who could possibly do a drive by?
As you can imagine, an 800 mile round trip for us would cost an arm and a leg. So if anybody happens to be in the vicinity we would be forever in your debt!

You are in luck. I just looked at the meadow on Google earth and its full of sheep :-)
Seriously though if anyone does go look at the meadow how do they tell if the sheep are your sheep?

Have to be a bit carefull with google, I've looked at my livery yard and the indoor school that was built over years ago was not there!
-
If I was any closer then I'd go and have a look for you, but how far is this field from Leeds? Cos i'll be up there for new year if that helps?
-
As someone who is looking at establishing a flock I thought that they were rather tight on livestock movement control. anything bought/sold needs to be registered with DEFRA and they are all tagged etc. Im not sure how to go about enquiring, but maybe online?
-
Crazymac....
Thanks for the offer but its about 45miles so a 90mile round trip is a bit far!
Carbore.......
I will get the g/f to pm you the info you need for get a holding no. and flock no's etc.....
tah

no shetlands just monsters
seriousley though Dave - DONT BUY THEM IF YOU WANT AN EASY LIFE.............
they only want to die, it is their sole purpose in life, they cause nothing but hassle.

They are the G/F's sheep and thats what she has is sheltys.... Though she was thinking of maybe looking for some herdwicks....

I'll probably be in Kirkbymoorside in the next couple of days, which is only a few miles away. If I can I'll drop by and have a look. Have programmed it into the GPS (if the damn thing works properly). Can you PM me an email address and I'll photo it and email you the photo. Can't promise anything but will try!

Big thanks and virtual beer on its way

Bad news I'm afraid. Assuming I have the right field, no sheep - only a couple of horses. I'll try to email or post photos bit can't from the phone. :'(
Sorry to be the bearer...
-
Thanks David.... Yeh sounds like the correct field as there was a couple of shire's in with them.

So what happened :-.
-
RRB - We don't know, we have been trying to call the guy for the past week and nothing.......
-
If they have been sold then I presume it's just a straight case of theft, rather like if I sold your Landy to somebody else it would be theft. In which case, if you can track them down I presume you can claim them back, assuming they're not already kebabs?
-
...and so began the mysterious case of the vanishing sheep
-
I must admit there was a certain element of Wallace and Gromit to us trekking across the North Yorkshire Moors looking for potentially rustled sheep.
