Title: MOT Check
Post by: BigSi on January 06, 2009, 16:25:28
Is there a way to check online if a vehicle has a current MOT (or how long is left), from just the reg number?  :-k

Tried those but they require either the MOT test cert number, or the V5 document reference number.

Try Here (http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/)

Use 'Vehicle Enquiry' option from menu - tells you when vehicle is due for MOT and whether taxed or sorn (plus a few other details

I dont think it does.  All that does is tell you how many G/Km a car is and wether or not its taxed, oh and how much tax will be on renewal!

Well, we beg to differ  :)

I believe that 'Vehicle Status' is whether or not you have MOT

I just checked 2 vehicles (my own)

on vehicle status: First one shows

Licence not Due (ie - it has MOT)

Second One shows

Sorn not due (ie - it has no MOT and is currently on Sorn)

I know both of the above to be accurate - but I don't have a reg of a non-MOT'd, non-SORN'd  car to try

Sorn doesnt mean no MOT at all, it means its been registered as having no tax and being kept off the road.  There is no website for checking the MOT status of a vehicle other than www.motinfo.gov.uk which you need the mot cert or log book to do.

Also working on your logic i should be able to drive my discovery that is sat on my driveway which is taxed, even though it doesnt have an MOT!!!!!

Licence not due means that the TAX is not due, it is nothing to do with MOT
Sorn not due means that it is currently on sorn (Statutary Off Road Notification) which is road tax based not MOT based! for example, it is perfectly possible to have a vehicle on SORN that still has MOT, equally it is possible to have a vehicle with TAX which has no MOT!!

The DVLa USED to say if it had MOT - but then they split it off , something to do with Data protection I think
