Title: 300Tdi injectors.
Post by: Disco_Stu on January 10, 2009, 23:12:34
In pursuit of a bit more performance, I'm considering replacing the injectors on my disco. There is no definate fault, just a good puff of black smoke on startup (Which I associate with worn injectors) and a generally gutless feel.

Has anyone had noticable improvement changing their injectors?

Was there someone on here who said they sold recon ones?

My trucks done 163,000 miles...

It's probably ready for a set.  Look on E-Bay, I bought 4 genuien Bosch ones for £130 odd, fitted them to my siuster's truck and she can get 30mpg, 21 towing, from it.

They are supposed to be serviced at intervals IIRC, anyone know how often?

120K rings a bell, but cant be certain.

I did  mine at about 130K and  noticed [!Expletive Deleted!] all difference.  I've still got the old set and I reckon after a clean-up I could chuck them back in and still notice no difference.

How many miles on em and how much? Have they had veg oil thru them?

Im not sure to be honest. Mine have had loads thru them and it didn't worry me at the time but if i'm paying for them, I'd like to know they're spot on.

I think veg oil eventually degrades seal as there is no lubrication.  I run my landies on veg oil with no probs...yet!

Hi.

Not sure on the interval for injectors but if your only fault is the puff of smoke at startup I wouldn't worry as they all do it! They also all have a slight lack of power when you are thinking about it!

As mentioned above, new injectors are unlikely to produce a noticable difference without other work also. You could have the pump removed and reconditioned. If you find a Bosch service agent they will do the injectors too, a proper recon will leave them as new.

Otherwise, regular servicing of the filter & sedimentor will always help. There is also the common problem of the corrosion to the metal pipes on the fuel sender, pin [ed - prod with a sharp implement] holes here could give you air in the fuel which might give you a lack of powerbut they usually cause other problems at the same time.
