Title: hairy moment

Should of put skairy moment, had frount disk shatter on the tdi 200 , had to stop very quickly for some Ill do it now censered driver who pulled out in frount of me in a smart car, (nearly a speed ramp for me), I scretched to a halt (mud terains allways good for emergency stops :roll:) and bang disc shattered more like a shotgun going off limped home using had break got the wheel off and well thank god our kids wernt in it the disk  shattered from th hub spining like it was a seporate component  the problem was a partial sezed caliper, so check your breaks very regular like every 500 miles in my opponion

glad to here you are ok. sounds like it could have been a lot worse .

when i got my disco it went strait for the mot and failed on worn disks, when changing them both rotors came away from the smaller bit in the same way glad i wasn't driving it.
 How old were the disks min thickness is 13mm from what i can remember, mine were down to about 7/8 if that.

almost new thickness but the culprate we susspect was a partialy sezed caliper freed off now and replaced both disks £23 for the pair god I love these older trucks, now got a bad leek in th power stering

I assume you mean HAND BRAKE here, in which case you really don't want to be doing that!! Remember the handbrake is on the transmission, so you can seriously [!Expletive Deleted!] the transmission by doing this!

Close shave ther mate...... do you know the brand of disk that shattered?

If you put a few cap fulls of brake fluid in the pas tank it may stop the leak................ it has worked for me and a few mates with the same problem. One of them it has stopped the leak for over a year now

The brand of dick is unknown,  I no the hand break is not a good way but better than no breaks and 4 miles to home but thanks any way incase I did not no, oups ment to put* disk * :oops:
