Title: Clutch slipping like behavior in 4th and 5th?
Post by: Saffy on January 16, 2009, 14:50:05

Recently in top gears the truck seems to be over rev'ing more freely without any go go, like as if I was riding clutch pedal. Only happens now and again and in 4th and 5th.

300tdi 110 (Engine about 27k on clock from new, clutch checked about 10k ago, clutch release bearing & arm 10k, gearbox got about 155k on it 8-[ )

any ideas?

I had slip once like this, and it turned out to be the master cylinder which was not correctly adjusted: ten minutes later, and all is well (and that was two years ago!)

Check the crankshaft rear oil seal isn't leaking and contaminating the clutch plate with oil.

does it slip when the motor is cold or warm?????????????? if slips only when warm ur master cylinder wants adjustin because the fluid expands as it gets hotter, slightly applying pressure on the clutch! if it does it when cold,u need new clutch plus rear crank seal. on the seal use a 2.25 rear seal because they cost 99p. the 200 one rangies from 10 to 25 pounds and they r CRAP!!!!! the 2.25 is the orange one and does a grand job!!!!!!

Can let the rev's build and pull off and move forward slowly in 5th with same amount of  rev's going and smell of cooking clutch. It still stalls trying to pull off with low revs though so not yet nuked. I wont be planning any journeys in it that's for sure. Will get clutch kit and oil seal soon and pull the engine out over a weekend sometime.

It is easier to drop the box to change the clutch.
It is a PITA to get to the clutch with no box in but easier than taking the whole engine out!
