Title: 10.5 Seconds
Post by: Bush Tucker Man on January 22, 2009, 13:39:53
I've just been having a bit of a 'sort out' in my snug.

During this (enforced) activity, I found some early copies of 'One Life', one had an article about the development of the L322 Range Rover.

The titular time was mentioned as the elapsed time for the Range Rover on the (13 mile/240 corner) Nurburgring.
It didn't mention whether it was a very early prototype of the Supercharged version, so it must have been the standard B*W 4.4 V8?

Still, that's a blisteringly fast time for something like the Rangie 8-[

In comparison, it took Clarkson 9:59 to get a Jaguar S-Type (twin-turbo diesel) around the track

Once more, Wikipedia comes up trumps again, with a list of times (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%BCrburgring_lap_times)

As you can see a (highly) modified B*W X5 did it in 7:50 (700BHP V12)

Hats off, & a truss to cope with the size of his 'Cajones' for that RR test-driver

To be fair Sabine did beat old pube heads time in a Tranny van     so I think the jag has a bit more steam  ;)

Still pretty impressive for 2 1/2 tonne of Green oval

My plan for the funniest TG episode ever:

Build "sleeper" Disco 1 with 500bhp engine

Hand keys to Sabine

Put Clarkson in passenger seat

Enjoy watching him being absolutely petrified for about ten minutes

She never actually beat him in the transit, she was about 30 second off IIRC.

I presume 10.5 minutes, rather than seconds?

BTM, off topic but do you have XK8/XKR times for the Nurburgring? :)

Wow, if he meant 10.5 seconds that's an average speed round the ring of 4422.85 mph !

Ok  I  meet you 1/2 way
She beat his Jag time in the jag and missed with the transit by 7 secs
Transit van was 10 minutes and 8 seconds
Been googling  ;)

Yes, minutes.

Sorry, not to hand, but I have seen them somewhere :-k :-k :-k

Not sure if they're for a 'Series 1' (either 4.0, or 4.2), or a 'Series 2' (facelifted/revamped model)

I'll search for them, they might be in one of my 'Brookland Books'??

Edit;
There's a XKR listed at 8:25 on the Wikipedia link (but no year given)
