Title: Compressing picture files
Post by: Chris Putt on January 22, 2009, 14:09:05
Hi all,
I am in the middle of doing my dissertation for uni, and I cant seem to compress pictures. If I put the pictures as they are into my word document it actually freezes word- its shocking!!!

Im on windows XP and have office XP, so I tried compressing them on a later machine with vista, and when I transferred them back to my laptop, the pictures do not even show!!!!

Im realy struggling here guys, if anyone has any wise words they would be really appreciated!!!

Chris.

Try this (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx) - it (amongst other useful things) adds an 'image resize' command to the right click menu

Personally I like Irfanview but:

Select them in a folder
Right click
Send by Email
Re-size to what you want
When the new Email window opens with them attached drag and drop them out to where you want them.
Close the new Email window as you don't really want it

Bit of a cheat but easy and effective

If you use something like Picasa (a google download and very good) you can select the pictures you want to resize, do some minor touch up work on them if needed, and export them to a folder - I usually choose the desktop for exported files for ease. At this point, you can choose how big you want the exported files.

Cheers
