is there such a thing as can give origional build data from a chassis number? eg whether it had ten or 24 spline diffs, did it have leccy windows, was it always 7 seat that sort of thing. i know bmw do it from their parts counter but is there a similar thing for land rover?

I'm not sure how accurate it is but when I put my Discovery's VIN into Microcat - LR electronic parts list - it appears to know which bits were fitted and which weren't.

You can write to 'Traceability' at Lode Lane, including your VIN number and they'll send you the original build details of your vehicle (well, of the chassis number actually). I think it costs £15 - payable to a social club fund or something :-.

I did this for my 110, and got a copy of the original order sheet - some useful info, but I still need to do some more digging !
