Disco has just failed MOT on emissions being too high, any ideas on how to bring them down to legal limit???? What would i need to do???
-
There are a few things you can do.
Change the air filter and give it an oil change.
Run some injector cleaner through the fuel system. Forte is a good one.
You could also cheat a bit by turning the fueling down so it doesnt rev so high.................. ;)

I would recommend CATACLEAN, bought from wilcos, got mine nearly halved last year.

Make sure that the engine is well and truly up to temperature before taking it to the test station !

get the cat chopped out, and a straight through pipe put in instead, then take for a blast for 20 miles
youll find the cat/particle collector is collecting lots of black soot, that when highly blipped on the smoke test lets it all out in one go, thus failing

Both forte and cataclean are good, we use them at work regularly. Try removing your air filter altogether. Give it a good hard 3rd gear blasting with a decent injection cleaner, a service and take it back.
How far out is it?

A few things can reduce your emissions - change the engine oil (only refill to just above minimum though), add no more then 20% veg oil to the fuel, injector cleaner, air filter (temporarily remove it for the test if it's ok). Make sure the engine is good and hot when you take it for the test, so drive it for about 45-minutes or more and cane the engine.
Changing the fuel filter won't help - they can only block and therefore restrict fuel supply to the engine.
Removing/replacing the cat/silencers will only work if it's restricting the exhaust - otherwise it's after the burn, so will make no difference.
