has anyone on here got a p38 2.5dt,just wondering what they are like on diesel?
-
i had one a few years back , its was a manual and i think i was getting 25 mpg
if u get them chipped they are better on fuel still not that great
saying that i bet im not getting anywhere near 25 mpg from my disco with a 200tdi auto and 37" boogers

Depends on what you are doing:
General tank fulls mixed of driving 25mpg
heavy town work down to 22 possibly even less
good run at a sensible speed anything up to 33
Towing brings it down to 25 again - if you are in SA where its legal to tow at 75mph that comes down even further
That is all on an Auto box

On that basis, you're better off with a gassed 4.6. You should be able to get a similar cost per mile and it's a lot more fun!

Probably true but there are a few other points to consider:
Look at my location - the equations work very differently
Those MPG's are actual rather than an "I can get"
You don't have to have a gas tank in the back so you either get more boot space or keep your spare wheel
I don't know of a garage that doesn't have a diesel pump anywhere - worldwide!
This one Gauls me to say it but the fact is that with a Diesel P38 you get BMW reliability!

There must be a big variation in fuel usage mine does around 31 in normal driving 25 mile round trips to work and however it is very dependant on outside temp in winter it takes a while warming up and uses more fuel as a result in summer I can get 34 driving cautiously at 45-50mph towing a 4 wheel ifor lightly loaded I can get 23-26, with a full 3.5 tonnes on 19mpg the chip does help with towing in a big way.

Hi all, I get around 24-25 mpg with 2.5 Dhse Auto. Towing and solo as per computor. R/R on 18" rims with normal tyres if this helps. Not impressed with this result as 200 Tdi R/r would do 32-35 Mpg day in day out towing or solo. Bazz.

All this and it went better when the turbo pipes leaked. Its also chipped, Bazz.

get it chipped and you will get 30+ mpg
