Post by: sMUDge on February 08, 2009, 15:38:16
Just a quicky !

The time has come to fit a 2nd/Leisure battery!

So where (in a Disco 2 V8) do you put them, Photo's would be great  :D

Hi Smudge

I have a v8 Disco II, and have extra batteries :P

mine are to power an inverter, so I have had a frame made and mounted into the gap where the third row of seats go on the near side. I have 2 sealed leisure batteries and a 1600w inverter/charger on top.

I have tapped the perminant live from the trailer wiring behind the rear off side rear light cluster  and I use that with a relay as a split charge (taking the sense from behind the  fag lighter socket in the boot). Not perfect I know, and is only temporary until I can run some dedicated large cables from the front. It does cut out when the starter motor is turned!

It is snowing here at the moment, but will post photos in daylight when stops

If you want any further help, PM me.

Ed

If you go down a size in battery but up in power you can fit 2 batterys in the original slot

PC1200's are £168 each and twin battery trays are £46
The isn't a 'off the shelf' twin tray for the D2 but it doesn't take a lot of work to adjust a Defender tray

I dont know about the D2', but on a D1 there is space on the opposite side from the battery. I.E. you end up with a battery each side of the radiator

It won't fit on a D2, too much stuff in the way like the air filter box & washer bottle filler.  ;)

You can do this with a TD5

Nice idea Charie.
How does it effect the access to the oil filter?
