ben i wouldnt use a breather from the bottom as oil will block it up if any comes out from the crankcase

i have got a wading plug in mine all times and i have made my breather in the inspection plate in the timing case

Don't leave a wading plug in the bell housing or the timing case...they act as drains as well as breathers.  put a breathers in elsewhere but never leave the wading bungs in

I leave mine in and check them about once per month or if I have been in deep water within a day or two.
