My friend is having problems with his 300tdi, it will not rev above 1750 rpm and at that speed it is very lumpy. So far we hav change both fuel filters, checked the sediment bowl changed the fuel lift pump. This has made no difference, the air side of the system has been checked to and that is working fine with good boost pressure and the pipes are all new silicone ones. The boost pipe from the turbo to the in jector pump has also been checked and is fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are now scratchinour heads as to what the problem is? could it be the injector pump? Any other checks we can do? :-k

When you are trying to rev it are you getting any nasty smoke? You've checked the boost, presumably you have checked the intercooler isn't blocked so the boost is getting to the engine?
Does it pull well at low revs or is it gutless?

There is some smoke but its a fairly light colour coming out of the exhaust, it is gutless but the boost is fine, loads of air coming through the intercooler?

Sounds like mine when it was fuel starving. White smoke is retarded ignition, caused by fuel starving (IIRC).
Check the lift pump and pipework in the engine bay.

The lift pump is new and all the pipework is in good order. We have checked and cleaned the injectors and there seems to be a reasonable spray pattern from them.

Check the fuel lines from the tank. Make sure there is no split in them to let air in.

Its fairly common for the two metal unions coming out of the fuel tank to corrode and let air in. Lift up the boot carpet and take off the round cover plate, this will give you access to the fuel lines.

Hiya, the last time i had one like that i ran a pipe from a can of fuel straight to the injection pump and tried
revving it like that. Mine still would not rev up so i pulled off the front cover and timing belt and
found that i could easily turn the injection pump by hand.Fitted another pump and all was well.
Good luck.

Hi try taking the in let pipe off of the lift pump and put a funnelĀ in the top of it and fill it up and keep filling it up as someone reves it up if that works go back to the next joint hope that helps
