ill be takeing my defender of the road for a year or so in the next few weeks and would like to know if the hd steering rods and steering damper can be swapped onto my classic? thanks

Yes but, the RRC has a steering damper fitted behind the axle.  I have fitted a Defender drag link and moved it inside the steering guard using that as the chassis bracket.  It is more effective in that the drag link moves further but I find I get wheel flutter on the RH wheel.

I have HD steering rods with no damper, no probs, just have to make sure the pre load on the hub is absolutely spot on or adapt the rod with a clamp for the bracket etc.

The extra mass of some H/D track rods can negate the need for a hydraulic damper.
