As subject really... how much mot do you have to have on a vehicle to tax it.
the mot runs out on the 5th and the tax runs out on the 1st
cheers rob
-
As long as its valid on the day you tax it, then that's fine, but it will be illegal to use on the road once the MOT is out, regardless of the Tax situation.

Both the MOT and insurance must be valid on the day the tax disc comes in to effect.
If you bought your disc on the 28th to start from the 1st, you couldn't use an insurance certificate or MOT that expires on 29/30/31st.

I've had a post office Hitler refuse me tax as the insurance and/or MOT was going to run out in a week!

To the best of my knowledge the MOT and insurance need to be valid for the start date of the tax disc that you are attempting to purchase, hence if the tax disc is for 12 months (ending in march 2010) then you would have to have both valid for march 2009, or at least part of it

Do it online and it will accept it providing your docs are up to date for when you want to tax the vehicle, I have done it with 4hrs to go on my MOT and you don't have anyone to argue with

I would have reported the pratt to the head postmaster as he cannot do that, providing your ins and MOT are valid for the day that the disc starts he cannot refuse the application.
-
I have had the online one refuse as the insurance was due within a week.
edit:
I was mistaken, I remember now, I had valid insurance and MOT at the time I tried to apply for TAX online but the insurance policy was due to run out before the date Tax disc would have run from so the system puked on me which is fair enough I guess.

This as I found out is correct providing the 1st day of the month both the MOT and insurance is valid then they cannot refuse you, but watch out with MOT's if you got a 13 month one ie took it in about a month before its due and past, the new one is not valid until the old one expires so take in both.
Unfortuatly its often the case insurance mot and car tax expire around the same time since when you buy a vechicle its all purchased at once, often the insurance got first so expires bjust before tax is due.

The tax normally comes first, because if you buy a disc on the 15 February, it'll be one that expires on the last day of the previous month: 31 January.
