Title: Power steering issues
Post by: ginge on March 01, 2009, 20:26:26
After spending the whole weekend welding, was presented with a new prob, the steering feels like it is catching on something when turning from lock to lock. Also when coming out of a corner it will not spin back to center. Any ideas ? Pump or steering box thingi ? Thanks

check the uj,s on the steering column shaft to the steering box, they may be seizing up causing the fault you describe

If it spins back completley to centre the steering swibvels may be too loose.

I had the same problem with mine a while back ...turned out one of the UJs on the steering arm (the one behind the axle with the damper on) was rusted up and crunchy for want of a better word. also I had some pitting on the swivels that were causing the steering to be stiff/notchy. I changed the joint and used a wet stone to take off the raised bits on the swivels .. sorted

Most likely the UJs.  You could try dousing them in WD40.  If that improves it a bit its time for new ones, because that won't last!
