I have just been reading in Landrover Monthly that there will be a new version of the SVA test starting April 29 2009.
It does not say what will change however from reading the article it looks like most of the rebuild projects on the roads should be on a Q plate.
was thinking about doing a rebuild with new chassis but don't want to end up on a Q so I wont bother now. I have a 1989 F plate running a different engine and different rear axle.
I have a 2" lift fitted so this means suspension is not original (how many old landrover are on standard original suspension!)
Has anyone else found this problem.
I think the only way to do it would be to purchase a standard defender, do the rebuild and then swap the engine, suspension and rear axle after the SVA test.?

You don't have a 2 inch lift! You have heavy duty suspension! I don't think there is a way that they can pull you up on that one?
Also any new system, will not be applied retrospectively!! So any existing projects will be outside the reach of it.
A rebuild that involves a new chassis should not automatically mean a Q plate, only if its a non standard one like a ready made bobtail type thing.

I dont think that SVA=Q plate Im fairly sure that if enough bits of the donar car are kept and this can be proven then the original or date based registraton can be obtained. I think my mate was discussing this when he built a kit car. Is that right???. I agree that some sort of super MOT is a good idea if lots of bits are disassembled and rebuilt and SVA is not silly money when you think of the cost of a rebuild.
