Hello
Does anyone have any experience of using any of these build your own web sites ?
I've been looking into it as I really need a web site for the bussines.
Basically I need a click and build package simple enough for me to use (so idiot proof basically  )
Have tried dreamweaver/serif in the past but they just cofuzzled me
oesn't need to be all singing or all dancing, just need to be able to have a few pictures on there and a contact page, though the option of shopping cart would be great when I get to sus everything out
I just need to be able to update on an at least weekly basis
Thanks

Paul (pdutton) might be able to help... I think he uses something like this.
You *can* use something like MS Word or Frontpage... but they produce horrible, horrible code and (especially if it is your business) may not be the image you want to portray.
If you have a bit of time, you can learn to do it manually and write the HTML yourself.... it's not incredibly difficult and can be rewarding, but it's not quite such a quick solution.

I can highly recommend www.webpage-maker.com , there software is very easy to use, have a look at my site to see the results :D
-
Thanks Guys
Tim, have looked at MS Word and Frontpage um... like i said it really needs to be really idiot proof
Have played with looking at HTML can manage the basics, but TBH again not really an option, my brain simply isn't wired up for that sort of stuff!
Phill Liked your website looked really profesional and thanks for the link, problem with it and the others I've been checking out is that only about 50% of these sites tell you up front exactly what the costs and what you get are/will be.
They just want you to 'try their free trail' which means I'd have about 6 sites on the go just to see what was the best looking, and fiancial option.
Arrrggghhhhh!
Need to play
Thanks again

I did try that once last year it ended horribly
Just can't get my head round it :(stoopid):

If it is any help. I started with Dreamweaver and bought one of those 'HTML for dummies' books which does go into things very simple. Between the two, it is not difficult to produce some decent pages, very quickly.
http://mudpics.serveftp.net/index.php
for example. Not bad, room for improvement but does work :)
-
I use dreamweaver.
The company I use to host, provides facilities for shopping carts etc, which I havn't tried.
I pay £5 for hosting with flump.net
-
correct me if I am wrong, but shopping carts are done with PHP and MySQL arent they?? Or is there an easier way to do it?? PHP is a bit more difficult to work out than html, not much but definately harder/more complex
-
Yes they are, the company I use provides a mysql database and the scripts etc to get everything off the ground.
-
mmhh, a copy of those scripts would be nice :)
-
try this
The Agora Shopping Cart is a free shopping cart program

If you are running a shop front, unless you really know what you are doing or can find someone who does I'd really not recommend running one. They can be a lpay ground for crackers with badly written code or unpatched servers.

Hi guys
Robbie - I bought build your own web site for dummies - and found out Im an idiot   :(stoopid):
I did find 'PC for Dummies' brilliant, but I just can't get my head around the website one - I find theres too much to get easily distracted
Remember I am severely dyslexic
Tried dreamweaver etc in the past I just can't get my head around them, my brains just simply not wired up to understand data like that
(however give me a hot head torch, Propane and glass rods and I can make a perfect glass bead in seconds  )
Have found an idiot site that does everything with click and build so Im hoping to get it at least basically up a bar a few photos for Friday
Fingers crossed
