Title: Discoparts rear bumper
Post by: gords on March 14, 2005, 18:35:18
I managed to break off one of my rear bumper end caps on Sunday - so I thought I should investigate replacement bumpers   :)

Discoparts do one that retains the standard bumper lights, has recovery points and hi-lift thingies  :?  and can have a drop-plate/towbar attached :)  And they also do a tank guard!

I've got one of their steering guards and I'm happy with that. Does anyone have the bumper? If so, what's it like (build quality, etc)?

I saw one of them in the ruts on the first hill.  If I had known it was yours and you wanted it back I would have got out and rescued it! #-o

Gords, the Discoparts bumper is an excellent piece of kit. You can see pictures of mine nd fitting details here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stage1v8/TechnicalRearBumper.htm)

Don't worry Julie, my brother was following behind me and picked it up!

I've got it - although it's probably not much use as the fixings have all broken

I broke both bumper end caps of (obviously not trying hard enough  ) then Julie started reminding me who's car it is and made me go fetch them.  Then I got really stuck.

Gords,

How does it compare on price and does it have the towbar facility?

I've looked on the Scorpion web site, but there's hardly any info - just a couple of photos :(

Gords,

I would *NEVER* attach a towbar to my bumper. I have a southdown tank guard with removable tow hitch (ISTR this is the only approved removable hitch (in it's style)), which is attached along the chassis as well as the top rear crossmember bolts (ala the normal tow hitch). I not sure how the Discoparts one attaches, but I would assume it uses chassis mounts as well?!

There are pictures of mine in my gallery. There is a video of us fitting it on the videos bit too.

It's a Discopart bumper on the rear of my Disco.............not the best photo but the only one I've got to hand.

It has a "C" bracket that goes around the rear crossmember of the chassis and is bolted using the towhitch bolt holes. There are also two plates that secure it in the same place as the standard bumper, although these are stronger.

The way the bumper is held on makes it strong enough to tow from or use as a recovery point, although I've also got Jate rings on the chassis as well!!  :D
