What are the major service intervals?.
& what else should I check, boot floor etc things that might be a bargaining tool...??
Also what sort of mpg would I get out of interest?.
Thanks in advance!

Service intervals are 12,000 IIRC but 6,000 rings a bell too!!
Boot floor has been sorted on Disco II, but check Electrics, Electrics and Electrics!!
Make sure all electrics work, I can guarantee they wont, something will have broken!
Whether it be:
seat motors/heaters
mirror motors/power fold
alarm
Central locking
interior lights
Corrossion along top of windscreen/roof
exhaust manifold squeal under hard power (studs sheared (sounds like fanbelt slipping))
Wheel Bearings £200>
Clutch and Flywheel £600>
ANY dash lights.
Coils on rear are a bonus IMHO (air bags removed)
Sunroof leaks
18" wheels are a negative (expensive and limited choice of tyres)
Hard to engage gears 1st and 2nd (quite normal when cold though)
-
and to add to list
leaking sunroofs
oil in harness

my advice is to look for one a little bit older one as the tax is high on the year you are looking at :)

cheers all
my defender was a serious money pit, wondered if spending twice + as much on a disco would reduce the outlay any.....?? Probably not.
pre march 01 2001 is 185 quid tax yes?
£210 for march 2001 to march 2006?

Read & re-read the taxation thing & looks like anyone after 1st march 2001 is getting hit for massive tax On 1st april 2009 (nice choice of date)
Knocked the idea on the head, desperately fancied another truck but wasn't to be.
when I have a few more quid maybe

I thought that the £400 tax was only applicable to motors registered after March 2009 :?
