Hi
As a result of doing a body lift (to enable bigger tires to be fitted) I have a stiff steering. Despite the fact i took the bolts out of the steering. My mate said to put smaller diameter nuts and bolts in but that don't sound right. But even without any bolts at all its still stiff. It moves on all the splines. I never had this problem on the 200 which had the same setup. Or should i just fit the steering rod off my 200 on? Anybody know what it is?
Cheers
John

?? Interesting ?? Don't risk it!

I know that this may sound a bit daft, but I had the same problem on my Disco and (as part of my investigation) I ended up taking the plastics off from behind the steering wheel and found that the wheel itself was binding against the switch shroud. I never did get to the bottom of why - I just drove around without the shroud fitted and it was fine. May be worth a try?

Somebody on another forum recommends putting the 200 shaft off Pinky on it. He reckons that solved it on his bobtail.

have a look at track rod end on the rod from the steering box,it might of been a bit knacked anyway, but now the rod is at a different angle because of the lift,it might be partially seized, just a thought mate :-k

Might be the u/j's on the linkeage from the steering wheel are working harder due to the lift, may need losening/adjusting or replacing?

Bingo... correct answer. I took the steering shaft off and it was still stiff so gave the end a tap with my Birmingham screwdriver and once i had got it back where it was meant to be it was fine.
