Title: itss started
Post by: william127 on March 10, 2009, 22:34:22
iv started pulling my 127 apart! after driving through 5 foot deep water it still wont die, (what a machine),although i think the mot man may have something to say about the clouds of smoke in the cab and at the exauhst, i have decieded to rebuilt everything from the tipper body forward. took a 41/2inch adjuster to the a bar, sold that, removed the halogen lights and winch to put on the range rover and started to remove the welded on d2 winch tray(why my dad didnt buy a proper bumper....). i will work out how to include pictures and try and update this every so often.

by the way, can a disco 200 tdi engined defender be converted to a 300 auto, again from a disco?

Good luck!

You could use your ISP's web space to build a simple web site to keep pics like I'm doing with my rebuild (www.sjnash.co.uk).

im still on for next weekend, not gettin the disco till im ready to do the engine as space is fairly limited, withe the trilers and other stuff. made fairly good progress gettin the winch off and stuff, if i keep doin little bits during the week we should be able to get the wings and cab apart at the weekend, should make a nice pile for the scrap man! :) have started putting some of the bits ive taken off on the rangie

twas a very good days work i will try to upload some of the pics i have. with no wings and bonnet it looks like a flat bed hot rod...i think we should mount an A bar with some bit spots onto the chassis members and leave it like that and pimp up the cab hehe.

More work done today on the 127, it now has no engine to go with the rest of the bits came out nice and easily with the hoist william127 was given. Started at 7.30 ish and the engine was out by 8.30. Looking forward to the next stage of replacing the old suspension and steering arms.

just to make clear it took me a day to get the engine disconected and unbolted, and it just took an hour to get the truck into the yard, get the crane out and lift the engine into the trailer  it would be nice if we could remove an engine in an hour  got a 750kg trailer full of scrap out of the truck, which is good.

my freebie hoist was brilliant, its designed for tractor engines, martin lifted the engine up and over the shock turrets using 2 fingers on the pump handle, and then we picked up the whole front of the truck with it- should make suspension changing nice and easy :D

good idea of martins to go up to the yard for a couple of hours

The hardest part of converting the TDi to an auto will be finding an Auto box that is set up for a diesel, the V8 one is no use.

Well, there are plenty of 300tdi auto discoveries about.
I would have done it when i needed to change my box but didnt have the time

another good evenings work yesterday, got the bellhousing off, the airbox off andboth shock turrets off, have painted and refreshed all joints/bushes on the rear anti roll bar- dont ask why the first new part fitted will be this odd one!

now found a 200tdi disco engine for it, picking it up early next week, got a mate coming to do some welding on it and my acounts almost all paid at the mechanics so can start farming some bits out
also need to decied on the colour: i cant have the 2 id like- focus ST orange, because another lanscaper  has a 110 tipper in it in our area, or bonnatti grey, because a mates 110 is that colour, so im thinking focus ST blue or red. any thoughts? porsche also do some nice reds/blues, might go in the local delears and get some colour charts
also series doors or defender? quite like series doors because of the lack of door cards, winders etc- less to pay for, less to repair?

any thoughts, ideas, second hand parts etc please reply :)
 thanks, William

i cant find the gallery either, : will ask Martin to  have a look, see if he can find it, if not we will need to make a new one!
i quite like the ST blue,  not the stripes though, dont want to look like one of those transit sport vans

the only thing against blue is that my 110 is a landy blue and they wont match looking a bit odd, might be better if its completly different?

welding on the chassis now done, just the bulkhead to do, then the engine can go back. have had a bit of luck as a mate of mine has just spent 5 years welding landrovers in the army, and being a mate he only charged me £30 to do it
if anyone around hertfordshire/essex wants any welding/fabricating doing, pm me and ill pass on  his details.

had another idea for the colour, jcb yellow?

to get to the gallery with these pictures in, look under "martin110" on the galleries page, alhough i dont think there working at the moment?

not done much on it recently as i need to spend a couple of hundred quid to get a pile of parts in and its been christmas etc
