Hi,
I have just fitted a timing belt to my 300tdi, when I tightened the left hand pulley it tightend by hand but as soon as I tryed to torque it it kept spining I assume the stud is coming out,Any Ideas if its safe to Drive (the pulley seemed solid) Is there any way to refix the stud? Would Thread lock do it? The engine is back together and sems to runn fine but has only been started for now, and hasn't been under any strain. 8-[

By the sound of it, it looks like either the thread in the hole has stripped or the bolt thread, if either is the case it can unscrew over time and the tensioner will slacken causing the belt to jump on the cogs or snap, either not good for the engine

Not adviseable to run or drive until sorted out so the stud tightens up to the required torque

Thanks Hobbit,
confrimed what I was thinking, I have booked it in at the Garage to get it helicoiled, just hope it makes it that far, well 2 chances I suppose

The End result of this was that i chickened out and got the Garage to sort it, the stud hole had cracked, so I have had to have a new back plate, ouch that hurt the wallet.
