TOOK MY MUM TO HOSPITAL TODAY, AND ON THE WAY OUT IN OUR DISCO, THE ROAD OUT OF KINGSMILL HOSPITAL WAS BUSY AS USUAL, GOING ROUND A PARKED VAN THE TRAFFIC WAS AT A STAND STLL, SO AS NOT TO BLOCK THE ROAD COMPLETLY I WENT TO REVERSE, CHECKING ALL 3 MIRRORS. MY HEART MISSED A BEAT WHEN THERE WAS A CRUNCH.  I'D REVERESED INTO A VAUXHALL CORSA, BUT I DID NOT SEE IT AS THE ROOF WAS BELOW OUR SPARE TYRE, AND IT WAS NOT VISABLE IN OUR SIDE MIRRORS. WAITING NOW TO FEEL THE COST. MAKES ME WONDER HOW SAFE ARE LITTLE CARS!!!! :( :(
AND YES IT WAS DEBBIE NOT SIMON (AGAIN)

ooopps well ther goes your no claims - say they drove at you and you had to reverse at them in self defence
-
HAD THOUGHT ABOUT A PARKING SENSER DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF THEY WITHSTAND OFF-ROADING!! :? :?
-
Get the small camera kits, with small monitor, used a lot on wagons on building sites, set cam high on back, like an electronic rear view mirror.
Compact kits nowadays, or use one of those small lcd tv with a cheap dc cctv cam
-
It depends on the style. The in bumper ones are great - but give the wrong readings if covered in mud (obviously!).
Ones that hang down.... no go :)
-
get ready for it quote for repair between £300 & £500
-
What you been doing
you don’t need parking sensors just strap one of your kids to the rear tire and wait for them to shout stop
or put a mirror on the rear roof rack looking down like they do on the jap motors but just remember to tell Simon its not for him to comb his hair or do is makeup.

"WARNING............THIS VEHICLE IS REVERSING"
You could get one of those put on. Then add
"SO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY".
They can't say they weren't warned then!
-
Or one of the "If you can't see my mirrors I can't see you" stickers.
Commiserations
Ed
-
Or fit a rear view camara.
http://www.davidbowyer.com/
Look under winch monitoring system.
Not cheap but cheaper than a new bonnet for a Vauxhall Corsa :?
-
opps and ouch :(kerching):
Like the sticker ideas, could also have "if you can read this your too close"

*cough*
I reversed up a Honda Civic at work - rather embarassing as it was one of my employees cars :(
The only thing that saved his bumper was the fact my tank guard ploughed two furrows in his bonnet.....
In other words - I was halfway up his bonnet before I noticed :(
-
Now, fancy admitting to that!!!!!!!!
Maybe you need a slightly smaller car Neil, rather than that "Tall" one!

I do hope you gave them there first wrighten warning for parking in your way. :(biggrin):
If you can't do that then next time they ask for a pay rise tell them you can't afford to as your car insurance has gone up.

Erm, being a driving instructor, I must say I teach the pupils to 'look in the direction of travel'..... ie when reversing, look through the rear window, anything else (mirrors, side windows etc) is purely an 'observation'.....
You wouldnt go forward whilst only checking in the mirrors now would you :)
But to be fair, the Corsa driver shouldnt have been so close either and I also teach the pupils to understand where they need to be to be seen by 'larger vehicles' in front, ie in their mirror view.... and always make sure they are not in the drivers blind spot
Sorry it happened :( It just means you need to go out in the mud to releive yourself of frustrations...... Hope it comes back soon

About 10 years ago a work mate of mine had a Honda Civic and our employer met him on the road up to our site. He was travelling too fast and failed to stop in time and ended up parked on the Civic with the front wheels of his Disco on the windscreen.

I remember being in devon and an artic timber lorry reversed into us on narrow road trying to let another artic through. It went to dispute and the insurance basicly said he was to blame as there was big traffic jam behind us anyway(besides we had clear view of both his mirrors so no excues)
It was a rental Corsa and did about £1500 damage but was still driveable fortunatly
-
Sympathise as I done that a couple of times when I got a Maverick many years ago.
Those big fresnel screens are the best solution.
About a fiver from your local motor factors.
-
Well the bit she has forgot to tell you all about is that last week backing her 53 reg kango treka 4x4 of the drive she smashed the wing mirror off .

-
mmhh, best advise there then is never to reverse!!! Keep on truckin' :)
-
Also notice that if we had not got the drop tow ball on, for the caravan she would have proberly gone up the bonnet
-
thanks guys for admitting those little bumps makes me feel a lot better,
i did look out of rear window but i still could not see it as i was also on a speed hump, which made me even taller than the corsa :D :D

Funnily enough about 15 years ago I was delivering around Lincolnshire, I stopped on this quite back road in a town, looking for a company, no traffic at all around, parked at the kerb, found the company was back about 20 yds behind me, so I got in, (nothing behind me then), four ways on looked behind me (in mirrors), all clear, started reversing, the next thing was a beep followed by a slight bang. I stopped got out walked round the back of the motor, there was this little car with my back chassis member right up the bonnet and touching the window pillars
It seeems she had pulled right up behind me, slightly off the kerb, right in the mirror blind spot, looking for something, looked up saw the 4 ways and froze, the beep was her after watching the tail of the truck creeping up her bonnet, and the bang was the cross member hitting the windscreen pillars
One thing was, she could get my number, the plate was about 12" from her head, plus she had a nice set of go faster stripes up the bonnet

We all do little bumps - couple of years ago I'd put the coach in the garage and decided it needed straightening up to fit the other coaches in. The garage door is like a concertena - i'd looked in both mirrors and saw daylight, popped coach in reverse and went bang into garage door that another driver had place in middle of the back end of my coach  nice big V shape in rear of coach and doors knocked off its runners - few grand of damage and I didnt get my P45 :D
-
About 18 months back I was at a set of lights behind a recovery truck when he set off in reverse and hit the Fiesta (Julie's car) even though I was reversing away from him at the time. Best thing is I could see him in his mirrors so I don't know what the b***y hell he was thinking, useless t**.
Worse still it was an ADR accident repair lorry!

- say they drove at you
Reminds me of a funny story I heard, not sure about how true though.
A bloke has been out with his mates and is, shall we say close to the limit?
He's driving home with a car full of drunken mates, one thing leads to another and he accepts a dare that sees him reversing round a roundabout.
He hits a bus coming round the right way.
The bus driver goes through the roof, swearing and the whole nine yards, calls the police.
Our 'hero' is sitting in his car as they arrive, sweating and panicking, after a while the bobby comes over, barely able to speak he asks "well officer?"
"It's ok, you can go. We've got your details" comes the reply.
When pushed a little further the bobby reveals that he became suspicious when the bus driver protested that the car had reversed into him, so they gave him a breath test, which he failed, badly.

its ok deb i knocked the hand brake off my unit the other day and didnt realise cause it was 4 in the morning :( and was half asleep, connected the trailer, released the trailer brake and ended up chasing 42 tonne of truck down the yard :o :(stoopid): if i,d have been awake all it needed was the trailer brake putting back on, no harm done just a good ragging from them who saw me do it best bit is it was my first week of my new job. we used to have them reversing sensors fitted to the 3663 trucks they were ok when new but rubbish after a while once the sensors had corroded so we used to ignor them cause they just beeped all the time you were reversing (very annoying) :D   :(biglaugh):
