I believe you go by the amount of bolts on the top?

Discovery ones are 4 bolt (one on each corner) there are also some Rangy ones that are 3 bolt. Hope this helps you?

3 bolt are the original imperial threaded ones fitted to RRC, I'm told they are stronger.
4 bolt are the later metric ones fitted to all Discos
6 bolt are found on some Defenders, IIRC they are H/D, never seen one.

The only differnece worth worrying about is the later ones had a 6mmm hole at the back of the output shaft that lines up with a slot in the drop arm, to find the centre fo travel.  Otherwise wind it all the wat to the left (drag link removed) then wind it 2 full turns to the right, that's the mid-point.

It's more awkward than hard as long as you don't have to remove the drop arm.

Replacing a PAS box. Vehicle shown is a 6-bolt item on a 90, but the method of removal/replacement is almost identical on a Disco.

I found it easier to remove the panhard rod and drop the box out the bottom, but on a later V8 with airconn you can't even see the top of the box normaly.
