Title: Easter Sunday laws !!!
Post by: marjan on April 12, 2009, 15:45:38
Here we are again with religion being shoved down our throats with the Easter Sunday shopping laws closing just about everthing.

Rather ironic that today you can get drunk in a pub, call in the betting shop on the way home and pop into the newsagents for an "Adult" mag but you can't buy a Bible as the book shops are not allowed to open

BTW , my Darwin shark just ate your jesus fish

and all the tesco metros etc are jammed full and sold out, but the big ones with the stuff you actually want are shut.
and what sort of an idea is a 4 day weekend anyway? either have the weekend off and be behind on money for the resst of the week or try and go to work, run out of something and have to pack up early grrr

It the one day in the year that larger shops must close - is that really a hardship?

Easter Sunday and Christmas Day are the only two proper religious holidays we have in the UK: Should we abolish the Christmas holiday too, because people want to go to Tesco?

Most parts of Europe don't have our 24/7 culture, and shops are closed in the evenings, half-day Saturday, closed all day Sunday. The result? More time to relax and enjoy life instead of rushing around trying to cram in as much as we can.

It isnt but abolishing the stupid sunday opening hour rules would be nice so when something goes wrong mending the car on a sunday at 3:30pm, at lets face it, that is middle of the afternoon with loads more hours of work time to go especially in the summer, it will go wrong then, so trying to get to Halfrauds by 4pm isn't possible. Ok if the opened longer the breakage would happen later!!

Like spain and france who just shut down for an hour for lunch! We aren't allowed to relax in this country. If we do that we wont be driving around doing things and there for less speding fines from the motorist gor the goverment!  ;)

The laws are a farce in this country. Did I just say that?  :undecided:

I can still recall all shops, businesses etc closing down for approx two weeks over Christmas. Now they don't, but you still get the 'must buy enough stuff to last a month' attitude.

I'm not religious in any way, but we need the occasional breaks from the hectic life that we seem to lead.

I'm all for the European ethic, in particular the Italian way of thinking.

We have become slaves to the consumer gods who dictate to us how we must live.

Have you noticed how the adverts on TV are always louder than the actual programme?

Product placement is becoming more and more noticeable in films.

Woe is me. I've just finished nights and have a hate on for society. I need to find a retreat to run to. The Black Dog is chasing me again.

Have a nice day y'all. I'm off to bed.

As an aside, Scotland has had Sunday opening for a lot longer than the rest of the UK - and even now they're not restricted to just six hours on a Sunday.

We have become very materialistic, wanting more and more "stuff". Whether this has been at the expense of community life, family life etc. is something we could debate for evermore!

As a family we've always sat down together for a proper meal in the evening rather than everyone eating their own thing at their own time in front of the TV. Means we get to talk to each other, find out what we're all doing etc. I gather that's a bit unusual these days.
