Just got back and all is well hurrah!
Will post some pics later on after i have slept! lol

Well as promised there are some pics!
The day started well, i got the rangie on the trailer, no bother, got it strapped down and left! Got a few miles up the road and the trailer was fishtailing really badly at low speeds! So pulled over and checked everything, and am glad i did cos one of the ratchets had malfunctioned! So i set about re-strapping the rangie down and then wrapped excess strap around the the ratched a dozen times to ensure it didnt happen. Off i went again and got a few miles further down the road and it was still fishtailing badly, so i pulled in and checked it all. It was all strapped down correctly and everything, so i think it was just the weight of the car on an inadequate trailer. So i proceeded to unload it and call the RAC (i know, naughty naughty, but desperate times called for desperate measures!). They came out, diagnosed me petrol fault for me, then recovered me and the rangie to just north of Dundee!
So here is a few pics of the journey (missed the first recovery truck out, but for you anoraks it was red! lol) and what the rangie has morphed into!

I suspect that will be the rangie being too far forwards or back on the trailer!
also a top tip when strapping down a car is to go in a bow shape. So start to the left of the wheel go diagonaly to the top right of the wheel accross the back and then diagonaly to the front of the wheel back to the trailer. That way you get the strap pulling forwards and backwards on the wheel to help it stay in place.
A bit like the pic I have quickly drawn below.
I appologise if I am teaching granny to suck eggs but I am going on the photos of the strap. But at least you saved some fuel by having RAC take you some of the journey!

The straps quite possibly would have been better doing it that way.
The rangie was located so the trailer wheels were at the centre of the rangie, as i was always told to do this to distribute the weight!

Nice pics Dan,
Really glad you made it there and back in one piece - even if you did cheat a little.....

You need the car slightly forward of the axle to give you some nose weight. Ie the weight on the tow hitch. It should be about 70kg as a rule of thumb.

Funnily enough, I have ended up with half of each car now again hhmmmmmmmmm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and to add to that he now wants the new car as well lol
-
Its wrong, plain wrong i tell yer!!!
The new car is a smart car!!! But its quick and funky and nice to drive!!! lol someone shoot me before i dig meself deeper in! lol

the Rangie was too far back on the trailer - bearing in mind the size of the trailer too (needed to be a bit longer - and lower... never liked those 'higher' trailers.
And I'd be very careful about phoning the RAC out to a job like that , they can in the future refuse to come out to you if they suspect 'foul play'... I speak from experience

I was lucky, at the point the RAC man came out to me i no longer had possession of the keys for the disco! lol, so they couldnt prove anything :D
But your right, they are evil sometimes!
