Title: Hub seals!
Post by: dan3411 on April 28, 2009, 17:27:56
Hi there can anyone tell me if the inner seal on the rear hub is supposed to sit inside the disc (just above the bearing)

or sit on top?

The logical answer would be inside... but i just can't seem to get the seal in there without damaging it!!!
and if it sits on top the disco doesn't sit far enough back

if anyone could reply as soon as possible this would be great as i am working on her now!

many thanks Dan

the part number for the seal you need is FRC8222, looking at the size of the seal you've got it looks like it's for the later axle

Try using a hub nut spanner, with a block of wood on top and CAREFULLY tap it in with a hammer if you are sure its the right seal, or heat it up in hot water first then try pushing it in by hand.

hi there looking at the second picture the seal is upside down, you can use the old seal to tap the new seal back in if its not to damaged, and the g is for genuine parts, just make sure you have the right seal and use a little bit of grease around the seal when fitting, and try and keep it square as it goes in,tap it down to nearly flush with the hub, dont use a hamer on the seal or it will be damaged good luck.
