Hi All
My lads just started driving and the instructor said to him that we could take him driving but he should only listen to the instructor as us parents will have picked up bad habits and our knowledge would be out of date . and to prove it he said my lad should go to this site and make us take the theory test .
I did and got 49 out of fifty . the only one I got wrong was the persentage of total emitions motors add to the environment . (I don't count that as a driving question)
so I got 49/50 on test one.
your turn   http://www.hazardperceptionchallenge.co.uk/theorytestinfo.php (http://www.hazardperceptionchallenge.co.uk/theorytestinfo.php)

Your instructor is right.... I am of a similar age to you, my g/f some years younger is taking lessons and the changes are unbelievable. You dont change down gear to stop, you can steer how you like, and more....
My brother is an adi instructor and at the time couldnt believe the changes, he says it is so much easier...
If your lad is driving and you think he is wrong.... ask him if that is what the instructor has taught him, you will be surprised ;)
Theory test is a piece of cake..... not much has changed there.... its the highway code + some green stuff and £34 a time
Oh.... g/f got 50/50 on theory test and 59/75 hazard test (pass)
You just get the official cd/book and all the questions are in it along with the answers :?

Oh Jess says 0.20%

I know what you mean about the changes ,
I am just interested in how well us older drivers who took the test 20 years ago fair with the new style tests ;)

43/50 for me, so passed by scraping me teeth, think i did the same on me theory test as well, i was 1 off failing!

I always struggle with the hazard perception test because I read the road too far ahead, anticipate the "hazard" and click the thingy too early. I suspect for a novice driver (and I don't mean that in a negative sense) it's easier because they wait until the hazard is actually happening before clicking.
Quite a few people I know who have advanced driving qualifications, e.g RoSPA, struggle with it too.
As for the theory test containing stuff on emissions... :-k

44/50 ON TEST 1 and same 44/50 for 2nd. Passed test in early 90's.
Tend not to remember things like exact stopping distances as they mean nothing other than making one aware that more speed = bigger distance need to stop in.
Didn't know that using hazards when rapidly slowing down because of a hazard ahead was allowed or in the highway code. I have seen it being done, usually by lorry drivers. But pretty sure when I took test that hazards where only to be used on static vehicles.
Grey "zone ends" signs  do not really care that I did not know what they meant.
Only wrong answer embarrassed about was about the broken white line in middle of road meaning there is a hazard ahead - go figure.

I was very baffled recently by a similar BBC quiz. Apparently it now breaches emissions laws to have an engine idling for a length of time unless it's to diagnose a fault? I can understand noise, but what a petty, net curtain twitching jobsworth piece of legislation!
I did my test about nine years ago now and there was none of it, just questions that related to being a safe, skilled driver.
-
43/50. I passed my test in 1982, so fall into the catagory you are asking.
I did find one or two of the answers ambiguous though. More than one answer would have been correct in certain circumstances.
-
48/50, so not too bad.
It was useful, having passed my test in May 71, to have had a job recently that required all company drivers to take an Advanced Course, and to do a refresher every 2 years.
-
when i took my theory test four and a half years ago i got 100 percent, with next to no revision, very easy questions, but i almost failed the hazard perception as i was worried about failing for just clicking constantley, dont have a problem spotting hazards on the road but just couldnt work that test out  60,000miles later i wonder if id get it now?

Hi,
i have not attempted the theory test, but i have to say that recently i have phoned two different driving schools due to their instructors nearly causing accidents. i am staggered at the way that some instructors behave, it is no wonder people drive badly! however, as usual - it will be the minority destroying the reputation of the majority.
i have made note of the schools i phoned and when the girls start driving lessons - it will not be with them!
regards
ela

49/50 for test one and 50/50 in test two.
And must say that when daughter started driving lessons i was amazed at how much has chnged like the not changing down when braking. no wonder there were so many crashes when we had the last good bit of snow with al the new drivers just using the brakes.
