Im getting a rather horrible noise when the turbo kicks in, it sounds as if the bearings have gone in the turbo unit.
I have given the vain's a wobble and there is a little play but not a lot.
It sound kind of like the barings are dry, but as far as i can tell there is fresh oil at the oil feed pipe.....I'm now a bit stuck at what to do next.
Now should there be any movement, or am i right in thinking its on its way out?
Can i change the barings?
Is a the disco unit similar enough to put on my defender manifold?
-
i had a similar noise and it turned out to be a split air hose from the intercooler
I'd check all your inlet hoses 1st

hiya andy we had same kind of noise on that disco we had off u we just ignored it an carried on off roadin it safe 2 say turbo died lol followed shortly by engine lol
-
Iv had a fiddle round with the hoses and cant find anything wrong, so
Im on the look out for a turbo .
Has any one put a disco turbo on a defender manifold??
-
lots of ppl put 300 disco turbos on2 200 tdis as then u can use standard defender 300 downpipe then an 300 turbos give out more boost as standard
-
blown inlet gasket also causes a horrable screech and a distinct lack of power
-
well the noise has got louder and easyer to here, and i don't think its the turbo.
I found the odd noise it was the heat shield ratteling!
