Hi does any one know if it is possible to take away the transferbox and mount the gearbox to the engine only to make it rear wheel drive or any other gearbox convertion
-
why would you want to do that?
to make it rear wheel drive just take off the front prop shaft.

With respect,
What are you hoping to achieve? Seems like you need to swap to a car.

RU hoping to achieve better fuel consumption ?????
but a diesel freelander :D
i would guess that the rear prop would be to short and if you had a longer one made it would still be out of line maybe too much of an angle
secondly take the front prop off and put into diff lock this is the cheapest option but i wouldn't like to guess how long the transfer box would last in Permanent diff lock

why would it be under any more stress than normal? if the front prop isnt there then there is no risk of transmission wind up.

As already expressed by others this is probably not a simple, realistic option. Two problems immediately rear their ugly heads. Firstly, there's no output flange on the gearbox output shaft so there's nothing to bolt a prop shaft to. Secondly you'd lose the hand brake as that fits onto the back of the transfer box.
Nothing is impossible if you have the will and the money but as to practical, well ......
If you just want to make it rear wheel drive then simply remove the front prop shaft and stick it in diff lock ... unless your t/box is broken and that's why you posed the question in the first place
