I fitted a 2" lift with pro comp shocks to my 300 tdi disco in jan of this year I've just been doing a couple of jobs on it today and found that the piston rods are already heavily rusted near the top mounting eye and that there is already pitting further down the rod. Is this normal for pro comp or have I ended up with a set of dodgy shock absorbers. After only 4 months use to say I'm not impressed is an understatement.

I left the boots on mine fitted four / five years ago and Havent looked at them since ;)
Hate to think what they look like but they are working fine. :D

yep mine have gone the same and are now leaking, wont buy them again

Yip, same here - the 'paint' (it was probably dried spit) on the bodies was more or less gone after a couple of months and the shafts were well pitted and rusty not long after that. The back ones went in the bin recently in favour of some Terra-Firma's and the fronts will be following suit soon.......
Not impressed - but you get what you pay for my Dad always tells me...........

the ones on the back of the 110 are the same an leakin now :( an mine had boots on em too so need replacin was lookin at rough country ones as i got sh*tpart dynamics on my disco an dont like them in the slightest might replace them for either bilsteins or rough country as well

I've just put some +5" Terrafirma's on and was told when I bought them that the top two inches are prone to rust (due to lack of use in normal conditions) and to smear a little grease on them.

I think I'll be ringing pro comp to see if they will replace them. If you don't ask you don't get so fingers crossed.

Let us know the outcome, because i was thinking of buying a suspension setup from mm4x4 which contains pro-comp shocks.

Yeah, but too late - mine went to the council dump weeks ago! Might come in handy for the fronts though! ;)

I took the boots off mine tonight and the rods are fine and no leaks :dance:
theres no paint left though :(

Tried to contact pro comp using the number on their website but it's been disconected so contacted paddock's instead, they said to e-mail pictures of the shocks to them and they will forward them onto to uk their supplier to see if they will replace them under warranty. keep you all posted when i get an answer.

Have pro-comp still got the issue of the shocks breaking due to spot welds???

was speakin to a man in m/ms about this and aparently pro comp dont exsist anymore another company called explorer im sure he said owns em now an i cant take mine back unless i can find receipt i got no chance of that :(

I had problems with the Pro Comps on my Disco. Explorer UK replaced them without question the 1st time. The second set i had packed up after a couple of years use and they would replace them if i provided a receipt ,which i didn't have because they replaced them !!!
Pro Comp USE brag about a lifetime warranty on there web site, so if you dont get any joy with a UK stockest email the yanks, they will sort it out it just takes a while.

I wouldn't use pro-comp again.
The fronts were useless to the point of dangerous within twelve months, the back last sixteen months before starting to leak.
I've changed them for Britpart Cellular +2" all round - I've got to say, I'm really impressed so far - the build quality appeared much better than the pro comps too.
We'll see ion the long run eh?

oh pants.....i bought a terrafirma kit from mm4x4 which my mate took a shine to and bought them before i fitted. I replaced them with pro-comp.

Mine have been on at least 4 years and are fine . Maybe it's down to driving style :P

They always do that, it's the downside of having longer shocks, particularly ProComp, they rust on the section that never gets used. I'm not sure but I think it's made worse by stone chips, so if you don't fit he boots they get chipped and scratched, if you do fit the boots they get full of cack and rust.
I cut the boots in hlaf so they barley touch the body of the shock and can easily be hosed out/don't hold water but do cover the exposed chrome of the piston.
