Hi All sorry not posted for a while but I am getting sick and tired of land rover ownership to be honest.
Don't know if many of you remember the history of my disco but if any thing can go wrongit has, usually twice. Now my rear near side airspring has failed and to keep putting it to garages every time it has a fault has bankrupted me so my question is can the air spring be replace by someone with some mechanical competence on his drive?
I've seen these springs offered for sale on Ebay and would not hesitate to fit a conventional spring but I have no knowledge of how these air systems work. I am even considering replacing the air set up with real springs but have been told it needs then to go on a diagnostic machine so it will still end up at the garage. I'm at my wits end and seriously considering getting shot of a car that has been a complete money pit.

yah, it can be done if you know how to hold a spanner
ours is now coil and have never looked back. spent about £90 on the kit and got back £120 on ebay for the spring compressor and springs!
you do need to get the ecu looked at if you do though because it will just keep readind an error.
hope that helped

Ok Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll get on Ebay and find a new spring then :)

I replaced both of mine recently. very easy job to do. Took me an hour. The non leaky airspring seemed in good condition so I kept it. It is sat in my shed if you want it. I am at eastnor next month if you can wait
Cheers

Thanks for all the feedback fellas, Especially the discovery2 website, mine of information. I've defo made my mind up to do the job myself.
John what do you want for your old spring is there any chance I could come and pick it up, maybe at the weekend?

You can have it. But I am in Manchester so it is up to you if you want to make the journey

Before binning a near new airspring, or when replacing an old one yourself, check the securinty of the plastic pipe into the fitting on the airspring and the surface of the pipe for scratches and chips, it should be a smooth pipe with a secure fit well inside the fitting, which needs to be secure itself (use PTFE tape).
One advantage of DIY is that you can take your time and be 100% sure the job was done by someone who actualy gives a damn. If you don't want to do it yourself then there are a couple of really good independants who are members of this club, not surprisingly they would get my recomendation above a main stealer.

New airsprings are a push fitting which is great for ease of installation
