Hi
I changed my transfer box of my 110csw 1986 - broke down a few weeks back - put on a tranfer box I rebuilt of a rangy.
It's wonderful and quiet! But I think the ratio's are different to what I should have, it feels hard getting off in first, 2nd goes to 30 and third goes to 40, if I try 4th at 40 it struggles.
Are the ratio's different?
Does anyone know who sells rebuild kits now - used to use LEGS but think they have gone.
Can the gearing in this box be altered by changing the main centre gear as this box is newer than my old one - the gears look stronger and the input gear is a cross drilled one which cannot fit my old transfer box.
Cheers
Dave

Borg warner or LT 230 ?
Probably the ratios are now well high. The normal Defender has a 1.4 transfer box RR probably around 1.2 (there are detail differnces) but if your SW is a normal asthmatic one the transfer would have been a 1.6 so a huge hike in ratio and the 2.5 wiill not pull it. You need a tweaked tdi at least to pull that high ration especially if the tyres are big as well.
